Revision in lot size of Index derivative contracts from November 20, 2024
SEBI’s new rules require the minimum contract value for index F&O to be a minimum ₹15 lakhs at the time of launching new contracts. To meet this criteria, NSE will revise the lot sizes for all new index F&O contracts introduced from November 20, 2024, onwards.
- Existing weekly and monthly contracts will continue with the current lot sizes until they expire.
- Newly introduced contracts will have the revised lot sizes as follows:

For quarterly and half-yearly contracts:
- Lot size will change on December 26, 2024, end of the day for Nifty.
- Lot size will change on December 24, 2024, end of the day for Bank Nifty.
- Lot size will change on December 27, 2024, end of the day for Sensex.
All the changes will come into effect from the following expires:

If you hold the position in odd lot quantities, an additional 5% margin will be charged starting December 20, 2024. If you do not adjust the lot size to match the multiples of the revised market lot or maintain margins, your position will be squared off by our risk management team to bring the position size to a multiple of the revised lot size (0 in the case your position is lesser than the revised lot size) starting December 23, 2024.
