About Jio Platforms

Jio Platforms delivers digital connectivity in India via a proprietary, AI-driven 5G stack (JioBrain), JioAirFiber, and JioFiber. Revenue is primarily generated through subsidiary Reliance Jio Infocomm’s mobile, enterprise, and rural broadband services. The company also offers digital entertainment/utility apps (JioTV, JioSaavn) and cloud computing solutions, with strategic plans to monetize its homegrown technology internationally through global partnerships and managed service arrangements.

  • Telecom subscriber base of 52.44 crore, including 26.85 crore on 5G
  • Boasts 2.71 crore home broadband customers, the largest in the country
  • Jio’s mobile network reaches 99% of India’s population
  • Carried about 60% of India’s wireless data traffic in FY26

What Jio Platforms is, and what it isn’t?

Not everything called “Jio” belongs to Jio Platforms. The company owns the Jio mobile network, JioFiber and JioAirFiber home broadband, and apps and services like JioTV+, JioSaavn, JioGames, and JioPC, plus cloud and IoT tools for businesses. But JioMart and AJIO belong to Reliance Retail, JioHotstar to JioStar, Jio Finance to Jio Financial Services, and Jio-bp petrol pumps to a Reliance–BP joint venture. So when your recharge includes JioHotstar, Jio is reselling it, not selling its own product.

Good-to-know things about the IPO

  • Entirely a fresh issue; proceeds will be mainly used to reduce debt
  • Google, Meta, KKR, and others own 33% of Jio Platforms; none are exiting in the IPO
  • Shareholder category: If you are a shareholder of RIL on the date of filing the RHP, you will be eligible to apply under this category. The portion reserved for this category isn’t known yet.

Strengths

  • Operates a full-stack technology platform built on proprietary digital technology and connectivity infrastructure.
  • Has the largest spectrum holding in India; has the most extensive network infrastructure with nationwide wireless and broadband coverage.
  • Net debt to EBITDA has fallen from 0.88x (FY24) to 0.36x (FY26)
  • Carried about 60% of India’s wireless data traffic in FY26
  • Capitalizes on the distribution strength of Reliance Retail and the MyJio App to distribute connections and digital services

Risks

  • Intense competition from telecom operators and global digital technology companies may impact growth and pricing.
  • Changes in telecom licensing, spectrum policies, or data regulations could affect business operations.
  • Cybersecurity threats, data privacy issues, or infrastructure vulnerabilities could impact customer trust and services.
  • ₹1.05 lakh crore owed to DoT in deferred spectrum payments
  • Has never paid a dividend; RIL keeps control after listing
