Referrals just got more rewarding!
According to the exchange circular (PDF), beginning August 15, 2024, brokers are prohibited from paying referral commissions to individuals not registered as an Authorised Person (AP). As a result, Zerodha will not be permitted to pay the 10% brokerage generated by referrals through the referral programme from August 25, 2024, until the exchange provides further clarification. However, 300 reward points will still be given for each successful referral.
When you refer a client to Zerodha, we credit you with 300 reward points for each referral. These reward points can be used to subscribe to our premium products and partner services (more here). We’ve also been following up with the exchanges to allow a percentage sharing of brokerage like we offered for referring until April 2018, which we had to stop since there was no regulation that explicitly allowed sharing of brokerage revenue with clients. The exchange recently published this circular that allows brokers to now offer such incentives. So, along with the current rewards programme, you will now earn 10% of the brokerage paid by anyone you referred from Jan 1st, 2020.
How does it work?
Refer your friends on Console, or share a referral link from our website, and earn 10% of the brokerage they pay if they open an account using your referral link. That’s it! It’s that simple!
Note: The minimum payout under this programme has to be Rs.1000 for you to be able to withdraw your referral earnings. We will start processing withdrawal requests for this referral bonus from April 1, 2020. Here are the terms & conditions to participate in the referral programme.

I have been an active participant in referring clients to Zerodha and have successfully referred over 30 clients, with more to come. I’ve always been committed to not only introducing clients but also supporting them with various issues related to their Zerodha accounts, which, as you may understand, often requires significant time and effort on my part.
However, with the recent SEBI circular prohibiting brokers from paying referral commissions to individuals not registered as an Authorised Person (AP), I wanted to bring up a concern. While the current rewards system offers 300 reward points, this feels insignificant given the ongoing time and energy we invest in assisting clients with their account-related concerns.
I understand that Zerodha must abide by the SEBI guidelines, but I would like to know what steps Zerodha is considering to address this for individuals like us who have consistently contributed to the platform’s growth. Is there any possibility of offering matching Gift Vouchers or Other meaningful incentives in place of the previous referral commissions? It would go a long way in recognizing our efforts, especially since we deal directly with clients on the ground level.
I would appreciate your thoughts on how Zerodha is planning to navigate these changes in its referral program while still valuing the role we play as important stakeholders in your journey.

here i pull sub suggestions which affects the user experience, some buyback & bonus were issued by companies, one it settle out the corporate actions than in kite will reflect on user dement account. but if possible than u can make one window there all eligible bonus, Divided, & buyback reflect in particular window after reflection of corporate action. so user can understand the outcome of corporate action.

I just noticed from AIS statement (income tax dept), there is a credit of some good amount as part of commission/brokerage received (after deduction of 5% TDS) and there was no transactions related to that bank statement.
So just checked the referral page and the amount is showing up in wallet and unable to withdraw at all.
it throws the following error.
“The referral ledger is currently under maintenance. Withdrawal requests can be placed after 17th July 2024. We apologise for the inconvenience.”
Another question is, given the TDS is already deducted earlier, why would again TDS to be deducted from the wallet ?! Quite confusing, Please confirm.

This is all a lie, Zeroda does not value its partners, the company says one thing and does another and refuses to pay the partner’s commission. And asks for a declaration from the partner that the partner will not mind if we do not pay commission in future

The technical application mechanism that is followed in zerodha is that Our Id will be appended to referral link that we share with friends to open account. If the application code is able to read that while person registered & submits then automatically mappings happens. If the code is unable to read then it get miss and support team concludes that its not system mistake since QA and UAT testing has been done in such a way that there is not glitch in the system which is not true in software world. Do you really think that this is the correct way?

I suggest it is an UX flaw which is misleading and increases number of support tickets on the same issue.

Happy that Referral incentive is brought back. I opened a trading account with Zerodha in 2015 . At that time there was a referral program and I have referred one of my friend to Zerodha. He opened an account (closed his Demat account with another Stock broker) and traded using zerodha.
I was rewarded with referral incentive from the brokerage he paid for trading. After SEBI rules ,Zerodha withdrew incentive program in 2018 which is fine and fair.
After 2020 , Zerodha brought back referral incentive . While terms and conditions are your own discretion, How could you flush my previous referral . I am still a Zerodha user and my referral continue to trade in this platform , but my referral section is not showing his name.
This is not fair for an user who believed you very early.
Same with me, it seems it is not lifetime sharing of referral amount, rather as long as you generate atleast 5 new leads this is valid. If you cannot all your old referral is lost. and the partnership is terminated. I have been with them 2 years, referred like 150 odd users, and now no more referral bonus.

Your referral scheme is not as much good as your other competitors. Upstox, 5Paisa and other competitors are paying the amount of referral (minimum Rs. 300) upfront.
The 300 rewards points you give to us. There are not much options to use it.
I have more than 15000 rewards points. Its of no use of mine. Only I can use it to pay the annual charges of demat AMC. Other options are not for my use like Sensibull, Smallcase etc.
This is the main reason, for the last 6 months I am referring all my near and dear ones to Upstox and 5 Paisa. Bcoz after all, cash matters.
Do something on this. Else, your all members would not be interested to refer anybody to Zerodha.

None of the above said is clear in a simple manner. Seems that all seedha workers are great mathematicians or zerodha is a science agency. Also, the funds link or withdrawable amount shown and request denied next to stating funds shortage is idiotic. Spend some money mates. Don’t just pile it up. Use some to make the plateform efficient. Also, share some important tips and news like other plateforms.

Not a 60 day I have shared within 1 day and my friend will open the account but not added refferal in my account. and I told the customer care but he told me you not added your friend number in refferal box like(phone number,email and name).
This is not fair of the refferal links.
So I request you add my friend account in my refferal list.

Same Issue with me. Looks like email is not getting verified with referral links & after a while the new subscriber takes a normal route to login and thus they escape the referral. Not sure if this is a deliberate attempt to discourage referrals and still get the new subscribers.

Is this condition helps in transparency? What if one of the referral, trades heavily but if we don’t receive 10%, where is the validation? and how can we trust Zerodha reward program? If you show only total, how would we know who generated much and who hadn’t started trading? If we know who hadn’t started trading, at least we’ll encourage them by teaching the subject. But since you are hiding this info, we are getting the doubts on the crediility on Zerodha, you already lost your credibility on your infra availability during the event days.

Hey Neeraj, the 10% brokerage credit is only for accounts opened from 2020. Older accounts wouldn’t be eligible for this. If you or your mother refer someone from this point on, you would receive 10% of the brokerage generated.

I referred my sis few months back, but didn’t received the referral points. when approached the zerodha helpline then it was told that referral was from zerodha exec only ( can share the name who was helping during trouble signup). only issue that was faced was during signup due to which was asked to re-sign due to some reset of the forms (as informed by the executive), also the executive confirmed that during signup time the referral was shwon but later after final account opened then no referrral. I think this is techincal issue of referral when someone re-register. If the executive is the proof and if referral has the email as proof and also sign it using the link then why we should suffer the referral point coz of techincal fault of zerodha.
Can share the evidence of the email referral and also other dertails if needed.also the executive ( supriya) who had called and helped and knwo this thing.

Zerodha is purely going on Fraudulent practice, I had referred my relative and they are doing huge transactions still they have not even credited a single penny. Even I have observed they started charging for the facilities which while at the time of opening account they were suppose to be NIL. I believe they are not a Long Term Relation Building Corporate.

Hey Alok, we had to stop the earlier referral programme because we were asked to stop it in the course of an exchange inspection. Now that exchanges have published a circular allowing such programmes, it has been revived.
Surprisingly, I posted a query on February 18th but I did not get an answer from Zerodha. It is really unexpected. I again request the Zerodha team to answer my query.

Hi Sir, 60 days is the time limit. From the day you add the client via console, if the account is not opened within 60 days, it would not be counted under your referral.
No Sir, as said in the post, the client referred by you from 1st January 2020 will only be counted.

If not already considered; it should be applicable to referrals during April 2018 and December 2019. This will avoid requesting our friends to close existing account and then open new account with fresh referral.

in this case, the people who referred earlier succesfully, their acc status should be be updated and earnings reinstated atleast for future earnings if not retrospective. u cant suddenly stop and start new programmes. regualtory bindings are understandable but disqualifying earlier referrals is almost cheating

I’m afraid not, Prasad. This being a new programme, unrelated to the old one, new referrals from Jan 1st will be counted for this programme while the older ones will not be.

To be very clear about your payout based on referral
When someone opened an account from your link that time when they completed their al formalities with Zerodha, Once he /she receives their client ID then you will get your 300 points (only points), but when they start to trade then Zerodha account will get fully activated. You can see their commission in your referral tab, but once you will complete 5 candidates or more then they will start to release your payout in your bank account.
If you fail to give at least 5 referrals in a month then also Zerodha will stop releasing your payout.

In Zerodha for investment in equity the brokerage is zero. I think if your friend invested in equity only where is the question of getting 10% brokerage.
Not as straight forward. At least 5 referrals required. And the brokerage paid by your referrals needs to add upto 10k. Getting 5 active refs is the challenge. 🙂

Hi every one, I have referred my friends in zerodha account till now i dont know were they will look in my account.
My friend open account on March’20 using my referal code and I got 300 point but I have not received the 10% of his brokage which was approximately 3000 till date

Dear Nitin, my Zerodha is zp2583 & I am a Full time Blogger and trader. Prior Zerodha i have been trading and do blogging for Karvy and they share Brokerage 30 to 40% with me on trading basis.
The reason is to address you is, i have referred more than 10 account to Zerodha and They all Are activated from last 1 years, but am Not getting brokerage Percentages as per your policy of Sharing.
Have done lots of calls & have raised Ticket but still not getting. Answer is very funny.

It has been a very nice experience since 2012 in trading through Zerodha portal. It is admired and shall always be. I would like to highlight a fact regarding 60 days challenge.
Previously Zerodha was paying the complete brokrage generated by the trader if he/she win such a challenging challenge in challenging markets.
I would like Mr Nitins kind attention that a trader5 who could manage to win the 60 days challenge must be rewarded with some amount as per convinience, but there must be some monetry reward.
I have paid above lakhs of Rupees of brokrage as and trader to Zerodha in my 09 yrs of trading journey with Zerodha and I hope that my point will be considered.

Hi Ravinder, only for the first payout 5 referrals and a minimum referral brokerage must be at least Rs. 1,000. This does not apply for every payout month.
Incase if my referrals are less than 5 but the brokerage generates is more than ₹1000 will i get the money or No.
