Orchid Pharma has signed a licensing and supply agreement with Russian drugmaker Pharmasyntez JSC to commercialize its novel antibiotic Exblifep (cefepime/enmetazobactam) in Russia, the company said on Monday. The agreement, subject to regulatory approval by Russia's health ministry, grants Pharmasyntez exclusive rights to register and distribute the treatment for complicated urinary tract infections and hospital-acquired pneumonia, with Orchid supplying the finished dosage form. Orchid estimated the partnership represents a potential opportunity of about $178 million over the first 10 years, reflecting hospital procurement demand in Russia. The product is already approved in the US and Europe and is the first new chemical entity from an Indian pharma company to achieve both approvals.

The National Company Law Tribunal in Chennai on Friday approved the merger of Dhanuka Laboratories Limited into Orchid Pharma Limited, the company said in a stock exchange filing. The scheme of amalgamation, first announced in March, will transfer all assets and liabilities of Dhanuka Laboratories to Orchid Pharma on a going-concern basis. The order copy is awaited.
