Introducing Lo! Foods

July 17, 2025

Visit any Indian supermarket, and the chances of finding healthy, low-carb, functional, or nutritionally balanced foods are still very low. Most walkways are dominated by products packed with refined flour, excess sugar, and empty calories. In contrast, supermarkets across the US and EU offer far more accessible options: protein-rich snacks, low-carb alternatives, and functional foods tailored to specific health needs. Even global brands tend to reserve their healthier variants, such as reduced sugar or fortified versions, for Western markets. This highlights a clear gap in access, not awareness, when it comes to better-for-you food choices in India.

The issue isn’t a lack of awareness. Most Indians already recognise the growing burden of diabetes, obesity, and carb-heavy diets. The challenge lies in the availability of everyday foods that align with health goals. Instead of eliminating staples like bhujia or roti, the opportunity lies in redesigning them, keeping the taste and cultural relevance intact, while improving the nutritional profile. Functional, low-carb versions of traditional favourites can make a difference in managing lifestyle diseases, supporting weight loss, and improving overall well-being without needing to import or change eating habits drastically.

That’s why we were impressed with Lo Foods. They’re addressing a significant health challenge by working with, rather than trying to change, the way people in India eat. Instead of asking consumers to alter their habits entirely, they’re finding ways to fit healthier choices into existing food preferences and routines.

Here’s Sudarshan talking about their business:

‘Lo Foods was founded with a mission to make low-carb, functional foods accessible to 100 million Indians, not just the top 1%. India is now the lifestyle disease capital of the world, with rising cases of diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular, renal, and retinal issues affecting people across age groups and income levels. The common link- Diets that are heavy on carbohydrates and low on protein.

At Lo Foods, we make smarter versions of the everyday foods Indians already love. From flour, bread, and biscuits to bhujia, namkeen, and chocolates, every product is nutritionally calibrated and designed to support specific health needs. We also operate India’s largest low-carb cloud kitchen network, with 40+ kitchens serving freshly prepared meals using our proprietary functional ingredients.

To make healthier choices easier, we’ve created four targeted ranges:

  • Protein Chef for those with protein deficiencies, especially vegetarians
  • Sugar Smart for diabetes and sugar-conscious lifestyles
  • Keto Smart for obesity and weight management
  • Gluten Smart for those with celiac disease or gluten intolerance

Lo Foods is creating a movement to work within Indian food culture and drive impact at scale. With a passionate team and growing community, we believe the most powerful way to improve India’s health is through the food we eat every day, that’s made better.’
