SBI eyes IPOs for General Insurance and Mutual Fund arms
SBI chairman, C.S. Setty, stated on Saturday that the SBI General Insurance and SBI Mutual Fund are considering initial public offerings (IPO). The chairman made these remarks during the launch of specialised health insurance branches in Telengana and Andhra Pradesh, noting that similar branches are planned across the country.
“In our portfolio, there are two companies we are seriously considering—the Asset Management Company (SBI Mutual Fund) and SBI General Insurance. However, the timelines are yet to be decided. These two companies are strong candidates for listing,” Setty told reporters on the sidelines of the event.
The development follows a directive from the Ministry of Finance to public sector undertakings (PSUs) to list their subsidiaries on the stock market. The move is part of a wider government strategy aimed at improving returns on state-owned assets, unlocking value, and enhancing governance standards.
