Introducing Privacy mode on Kite

August 22, 2024

Our focus at Zerodha has always been to help people do better with their money. That can be in the form of warnings and nudges that help clients improve their odds of winning when trading or launching features that can help avoid overtrading.

The temptation to place too many trades, especially when things aren’t going well, can lead to a vicious cycle of losses. To help our users avoid the dangers of overtrading, we first introduced Kill Switch, which allows you to instantly disable one or more segments on Kite, forcing you to take a break.

As the next step, we introduced the Virtual Contract Note on Kite, which shows charges for all the orders placed during the day, allowing traders to get a complete view of their charges during the day and help them make more informed trading decisions and encourage traders to be more mindful of their trading activity.

Now, we are introducing Privacy Mode on Kite. Constantly seeing real-time changes in your P&L can often be distracting and may tempt you to overtrade. With Privacy Mode, you can easily hide all these values, helping you focus on your trading strategy without getting caught up in the day-to-day fluctuations of your account.

This feature is also useful in situations where you are showing your screen to friends or family and want to keep your sensitive financial information hidden.

To enable Privacy Mode:

  1. Click on the user ID.
  2. Click on the Privacy mode toggle button.

Note: Privacy Mode is currently available on the Kite web and will soon be available on the app.

India's largest broker trusted by 1.5+ crore investors.

Your new UI looks foolish and dumb at the same time. Just change that for god’s shake. During multiple order notification I can’t even do order changes until either i wait for notification to close or manually closing them. Only thing going downward trajectory in the world is zerodha. You are quite a disappointment since five-six months now.

  2. Aadarsh Kumar says:

Hi Zerodha Tem, can you add a feature where i can hide my account details like my CLIENT ID from the pages where I can see my chart

  3. MD Alam says:

    Hi sir,
The ONLY thing for which I have to go on treding view is the HIGH NUMBER OF STOCKS IN WATCH LIST,SECTION OPTION AND EASE TO TRANSFER STOCK FROM ONE WATCH LIST TO ANOTHER. SO PLEASE WORK ON THIS AND TRADERS WILL STICK TO ZERODHA LIKE ANYTHING.

    THANKS

  4. Sachin Patil says:

Hi, I would like if you can provide a feature where I can hide my holdings, so that I don’t get tempted to sell them when I see significant provide even though I wanted to hold them for longer period. May be on Holding page you can give some idicator to user to show that they have some Holdings in hide mode or something so they don’t forget.

  5. Bhavesh Shah says:

    Hi Shubham,

I would like to suggest to add ” Add Section” option in watchlist which is available in Trading View main chart to categorize sector/any tags among few stock for easy sorting in same watchlist.

*Subject: A Heartfelt Thank You to Zerodha*

    Dear Zerodha Founders and Team,

I’m writing to express my sincere gratitude for the incredible work you’ve done in revolutionizing the Indian investing and trading landscape. Your innovative products and services have made a profound impact on countless investors and traders, empowering us to make more informed financial decisions.

From Zerodha Varsity, which has been an invaluable educational resource, to the lifetime free premium memberships for Sensibull and Streak, which have provided invaluable tools for backtesting strategies and making data-driven decisions, your commitment to empowering investors is truly commendable.

Features like Kill Switch and Virtual Contract Notes have been game-changers, helping traders avoid impulsive decisions and gain a clearer understanding of their trading costs. And now, with the introduction of Privacy Mode, you’ve taken another significant step towards protecting your users’ data and privacy, *as well as providing a distraction-free environment for traders and investors*. By hiding the live P&L, Privacy Mode helps users focus on their trading strategy and make informed decisions without being influenced by short-term fluctuations in their MTM P&L.

Your dedication to creating a user-friendly and transparent platform is inspiring. It’s clear that you’re not just focused on profit, but on building a community of informed and empowered investors.

I’m incredibly grateful for your contributions and hope that Zerodha will continue to be a pioneer in the Indian financial market. Your work is making a real difference in people’s lives, and I’m confident that you’ll continue to innovate and find new ways to serve your customers.

Thank you again for everything you do.

    Sincerely,
    Ashish Kumar

This is a helpful feature indeed. Besides, I would also request you to look into the following suggestion, which can help many intraday traders from blowing up their account in a bad day.

An option to limit the loss in one trading day and auto-kill once the limit is triggered.

  9. AD says:

Great new initiative by Zerodha team. Love your ideas and constant upgrade process. Keep it up.

  10. Akhil says:

It would be better if we could hide individual stocks from the portfolio, allowing us to trade without the P&L of long-term holdings affecting us. This way, there’s no need to maintain a second account for long-term investments.

  11. Mukesh says:

This is good one though just request feature which will help us to distinguish holding stock goal such as long term, short term, home loan, education and etc.
I know we have tag that can apply in console but something similar in kite app would be really valuable for long term invester to use same broker account for different purpose. Atleast feature like notes that we already have at watchlist level.

    Thanks.

  12. Anurag Srivastava says:

great feature…I was looking for that.

  13. Shubham says:

Please Add Buy Sell Button On trading View Chart And Allow At-least 20 Saved Chart

    • Shubham says:

Hi Shubham, we’re working on adding Trading from chart feature on Trading View charts. Thanks for your feedback.

  14. Venkatagiri Kulkarni says:

I am a longterm investor and it’s wonderful feature . Thank you Zerodha for this great feature !

  15. Sandhya says:

Thank You Zerodha For this Feature.zerodha understand our need so its great platform.thanks ones again

  16. vijay sharma says:

i want short note space in watch list to mention what are main points i want to watch in specifc stock because after some time people got confused between many stocks why i add this stock in watch list.
    thanks.

  17. Chandrashekhar Soni says:

All notifications are being hidden, but how to hide the breakdown bar?

  18. The horse says:

Good to know. Well, Could we have a feature specially when, typing manually Stocks is painful, and our watchlist is 200 plus stocks.

Could we get a feature, as if, speech to text, wherein, we would have to just tell the name of the Stock, and it would be Automatically In our watchlist, so we would save time in typing those Stocks.

  19. Balakumar says:

Wonderful feature.. Especially for people who feel nervous when they see small profit, they cut it and when loss comes, they keep waiting, once they cut the position the market reverse and come to profit.

kill switch is different, that is also required sometime at the same time this new one gives chance to hide or see, nice to see kite improving day by day.

I like this feature, it avoids overtrade with people… Good work Kite team.

  20. Aman Gaurav says:

This feature in its current form is useless. What’s the point if everything is hidden. Mask the current value, invested value, Day’s PnL, Total PnL at portfolio level and Day change % at each scrip level only.

  21. Ketan patel says:

Its nice feature. We want also this function in kite app. Hope you can provide this function fast.

  22. Rohit says:

The privacy feature is an amazing thing, and I hope to make better exits, especially positions page. One suggestion I would like to make it to add customisation on hiding information rather than blanket hiding of information. As an example, everytime I would like to place a trade, I will need to toggle the privacy mode to see the available funds. Also, while I recall my buy price and qty of trades on the positions page, I would like to still see the prices and qty next to the LTP for comparison, esp. when multiple open positions exist.

  23. Raj says:

Good feature but need customization in terms of what should be shown / hidden. Currently it is All or None which limits its functionality. For eg…. I would want the dashboard page to be hidden status so that casual bystanders near me don’t know my portfolio networth etc but the stocks position / order page should show actual values. Thanks for a good start.

  24. Ujjwal says:

    What a useless feature!

If you had to really hide the P&L, why hide the Day Change, Net Change, Qty, Avg Cost etc.?
How hiding all relevant fields help me refrain from overtrading?

It will only refrain me from using Kite altogether.

  25. Sumit says:

What is the purpose of this feature?
The main function of a trading platform is to keep users informed about their investments and market responses.
This feature appears unnecessary and indicates that the product owners may not have conducted adequate market research, relying on assumptions instead.
It would be better to remove it.

  26. PARTHIV says:

This is good – but could you please give feature for stock as well? Like once I book part profit or say I am long term holder – i would not like to see that stock on daily basis it will be not visible on my portfolio – it may remain in my demat/console account.
Also just like you have note feature in Watch list – if similar feature can be avail for portfolio stock as well . this is what I as user want..

Hope you will look into it.

    • Shubham says:

Hi Parthiv, regarding your first suggestion, we’re wokring on something around this. On notes feature in holdings, we’ve noted your feedback. Currently, you can use tagging feature on Console to journal your trades and investments. More on tags here.

  27. Manohar says:

    Good one…thanks

  28. Amar says:

This is not at all a useful feature…Instead please incorporate a feature where we can archive or hide some of our holdings stocks (from long term perpesctive )

  29. shubham says:

    Sir,
it will be a great help to traders if you provide MTM loss kill switch function. Meaning once loss reaches 2-3% of account value the terminal squres off all trades and gets locked for the full day . Max MTM loss value could be adjusted as per traders choice. This can be a tool to help the traders to save their capital from big blow and keep them in the market for long time. Hope you will consider my request.

  30. KOMAL GAJJAR says:

Concept is good, but how can we track the our portfolio then ??? evertime we can’t open console… we just need only Net Change & Day Change so we can easily track the daily movement on any stock.. lock on balance things is ok…

This feature is totally useless.. not good as it hides everything literally except for the stock name and LTP.

Day change price % is minimum additional info needed.

  31. Vineet Sahai says:

    looks scary

  32. Saurabh says:

in the breakup you only show the purchased stock.

i request you to please show the sold stock also this will help in deciding the repurchase of the same stock..

    kindly consider it

  33. Raghav says:

Not sure what one gets by enabling this feature in its current shape. One thing that can be useful is to let the user tag certain positions as “investments” or “trades”. And user should be able to select one of these in the combo instead of “All stocks”, so that at any point only selected group is visible and can help avoid impulsive buy/sells atleast among those that are segregated as “investments”.
For those tagged as “trades”, in future you can integrate more disciplinary methods like keying in stoploss buy/sell levels at the time of tagging the position as trade. You can even highlight how many trades were done without stoploss put in place and what was the eventual outcome of that trade.

Either this or some feature on these lines might be more helpful.

  34. Phani Kumar says:

    Excellent feature. Thank you.

Would like to have another feature to tag a holding with 5 characters.
Example 1, I would like to tag a holding in my portfolio as Potential Multibagger. Then I should be able to tag it as “PMB”.
Example 2, to sell as soon as possible. “Sell”

Thank you for the feature added.

    Best regards,
    Phani Kumar

    • Shubham says:

Hi Phani, we’ve noted your feedback and will check on the possibilities. Currently, you can use tagging feature on Console to journal your trades and investments. More on tags here.

  35. Mahesh Dabak says:

    Thanks !

  36. raj says:

    hello,

Please also hide user name/user Id display in privacy mode

  37. kusum says:

    Hi Guys,
Thank you for introducing this feature it could help in overtrading for the Traders.
However for the medium to long term investors. Can you please add a column in the “Holdings” view table? which can be modified and edited by user to enter TARGET and SL and REASON for entering the trade. This could help after few weeks or days to keep a track of when if to sell because of SL or Target or if to hold atleast we would know why was it purchased for.

I know this feature is introduced in WATCHLIST as Notes but to have Notes, for Target/SL in the Holdings table would be lot more helpful.

Also i am aware that this can be achieved by setting a GTT order however, that would mean simply the order will get executed irrespective of situation at that point of the stock.

Appreciate if that can be considered.

  38. Angika says:

Thanks for this upgrade. however this feature hide many other Info too which is not right. please restrict it to PnL hiding only. Also when will zerodha introduce PnL on chart similar to Fyers?

  39. sougoumarane says:

Like some new Brokers Zerodha can also provide seconds time frame in the live charts. Kindly consider.

  40. Ankit Patel says:

    hi,

Its good but you need to also protect switchover with password.

  41. suresh says:

Just one suggestion, can you please provide a separation in portfolio so that i can see my trading stocks separately and investment stocks separately. Now its all in one . Doesn’t serve my purpose.

  42. Prajith says:

Just a quick suggestion. It would be great if we had on option on the list of things we can hide in privacy mode.

  43. NiftyDas says:

While placing GTT, please show total amount needed to execute this GTT order. Say I place GTT for 10 qty at 100 Rs, then GTT should show 1000 as total amount. Angel One shows this.

  44. Versatiledexter says:

Please introduce Market price protection factor (MPP) like NEST terminal

  45. Vishal Modak says:

Privacy Mode Is The best Thing Zerodha Has Introduced.

  46. Aravind says:

Hi, I like the feature very much. Something my charting platform already has and that I’ve always wanted on kite. But the privacy mode also hides the quantity of assets in the holdings and positions tabs. How are traders supposed to make trading decisions without knowing how much of each asset we are holding?? A better implementation would be to give the user the option to chose which metrics they want to hide. If that is too complicated, then at the very least the quantity should be made visible. If we can’t see the quantity, then this feature is more or less useless…
