Business Line: Zerodha working on trading platform with charting software

July 23, 2013

Business Line talks to ZERODHA CEO,  Nithin Kamath on introducing a first-of-a-kind Trading platform in India…

KOCHI, JULY 23: Zerodha, the Bangalore-based online trading platform, is in the process of introducing a new trading platform with advanced charting software. This would enable technical analysis and back-testing strategies before making a trade.

The idea is to provide a platform of international standards similar to that available in the US and Europe. None of the online trading platforms in India have such features, Nithin Kamath, Founder and CEO, Zerodha, said.

In an interaction with Business Line, he said the new trading platform would be ready by the year-and and would be available free of cost to subscribers.

Hi Nikhil, I just came over to Zerodha from HDFC securities and eventhough I haven’t gotten my hands onto Pi yet (the frickin 48 hrs wait -_-), I saw the videos on youtube and it got me excited as hell.

However, like most people I have a day job (software developer) and I cannot use Pi all the time. My most frequent way of trading is through the mobile app and I must say, Zerodha needs a overhaul of its mobile app. The current one simply does not cut it. Of course, you already know this! So I wanted to ask if you guys have any plans to launch a new modern mobile app anytime soon?!

Awaiting a response from you on this one!

  3. VIDHANT JAIN says:

could you please launch for the mac as well. I’d love to join zerodha

  4. kishan says:

oooh man this pi is making me hungry, i hope it tastes as good as it looks when it is served 🙂

  5. kishan says:

one more thing how about adding count down timer on PI site if all the thing is cleared and ready for realese,

  6. kishan says:

  8. kishan says:

Mr..Nithin will we all are waiting for approval and release of platform, why not make some videos on how to use and customize the platform, so then it would be easy for user’s

  9. Aquif says:

  13. kishan says:

is new platform still available beta tester

  14. GJ says:

    @ Nitin @ Hanan
What is status on new trading software ?

    Few suggestion
    1) On chart have Visual mark up order [Check below image] this far important feature
    http://i.investopedia.com/inv/articles/site/NT-12.gif

    2) Pre-define order value…so that it can save time while placing order.

    3) Go one step ahead basic trading platform with good chart system then providing complete package with back-testing and system feature..it much more easier get approvals from sebi one by one.

    • GJ, we have been using it in our office already, a bunch of approvals pending from the exchange and hopefully should be able to announce something in the next 1 month.

    Dear Zerodha

I recently signed up for an account with you i primarily use Mac and want to know if you have Zerodha trader terminal version for Mac .

    Cheers

  16. deva says:

I hate NEST trading platform and NEST plus chart.Chart like MT4 is best.
Waiting for chart updates and trading platform.

  17. nn says:

Would recommend that a few ideas are picked up from softwares such as Trader Workstation or Sharekhan but of course with less ram and bandwidth consumption

    • RAJESH says:

NEST TRADER doesn’t have charting facility like trade tiger. New trading platform still not out as promised

  18. manigandan says:

in market watch background currently we can use only single color example black but in other softwares they offer dual colors black and grey which looks seriously more professional …like the tradefortune software, trade fortune is very sensible when it come to interface which is really a fabulous one sharekhan had partnered with them to offer the service..

  19. manigandan says:

hi,pls donot use the terminal top, bottom, side corners like nest trader which uses windows 7 aero effects, use something like example realplayer software toolbars and options.and as far as colors try to use darkgray, black, based terminal as they look professional and elegant for example winamp software….just inspire from the both and im sure the mother of all platforms (zerodha new terminal)will stand in global race…

  20. sathish says:

When we can expect the new trading platform from Zerodha?

  21. rajesh says:

When do we expect new charting software?
    I find Nestplus not friendly.

    • Hanan says:

Nest Plus is among the best free charting software that is available for Zerodha’s clients, especially for futures & options data. We’ll have to wait for newer updates from Plus for better performance in the future.

  22. stock says:

  23. masrit123 says:

    Dear Zerodha,
I am avid Mac user. Recently I have started on Zerodha. I am finding it difficult to trade using Z5 (HTML5) web based trading. Any development for Mac OS which you are planning in the near future. Kindly let me know. Thanks.

    • Hanan says:

We do have a Mac version for Zerodha Trader but you’d be better off not using it. The only workable alternative right now is for you to use VMWare and run Zerodha Trader for Windows virtually on your Mac.
Or you’ll have to wait longer to see our Mac version out. We’ll keep you posted on the developments.

  24. Das.Fuhrer says:

Its been almost 5months, when are we gonna se your new trading platform???
    eagerly waiting for new platform…!!!

    • Hanan says:

You’ve waited so long but you’ll have to wait a little longer as we’re in the process of building the mother of all trading platforms.
In the meantime, you can continue to use our existing software which is still among the best in the industry.

      • pradeep says:

Any probable timeline for the release of the Open Trade Platform?

        • Rajendra Prasad says:

          Hi Hanan/Nithin,

Any ETA for the new Trading Platform? I have been waiting for so long for the same :).
Is it something similar to cTrader?

          Thanks
          Rajendra Prasad

          • Rajendra,

The trading platform requires umpteen number of approvals, and this what is slowing us down. Hopefully the beta should be up very soon.

            • Rajendra Prasad says:

Thanks for the reply… I can understand the pain for the approval process. I hope the new platform will provide the best mobile software (i feel similar to cTrader or MT4/5). Hopefully the beta will be ready in March….

  25. rehman says:

I AM THRILLED TO REALIZE ZERODHA IS IN THE PROCESS TO PROVIDE US THE MUCH BETTER CHARTING SOFTWARE BEYOND MY IMAGINATION. A NORMAL TRADER WAS IN CONFUSION AS TO WHAT AND WHEN SHOULD HE BUY OR SELL AS ZERODHA DOESNT PROVIDE TRADING TIPS ON ITS TERMINAL. AND DESPITE SPENDING FEW THOUSAND OF RUPEES MONTHLY HE IS UNABLE TO GET PROFIT. IT IS A GREAT MOVE OF MR NITIN AND I AM SURE IF IT IS DONE ,ZERODHA WILL BE ON TOP NO BROKERAGE FIRM WILL HAVE THE GUTS TO COME NEAR ZERODHA. HUMARI DUWAEN NITIN SAHIB KO UN BULANDIYON PER PAHUNCHA DENGI JAHAN DEKHNE WALON KI TOPI BHI GIR JAAE. MUHAWRA HAI. I MEAN A GREAT SUCCESS FOR MR NITIN. THANKS AND WILL BE WAITING FOR THE SOFTWARE VERY EAGERLY. ZERODHA WILL DEFINITELY ROCK…..

  27. marutharaj says:

    Dear Zerodha,
Its fantastic idea bcos trading paltform with Advanced charting software gives an edge for the traders. To be honest even in India some brokers provide such facility but not at par with US or Europe. I hope Zerodha trying to bring something similar to Tradestation.

  28. rohanr_b says:

    Dear Zerodha
Will this new trading software software run on android and Apple Tablets..?

    • Nithin Kamath says:

      Rohan,

We already have a html5 version which runs on android and apple tablets. Check this link , but the new one will be hopefully much better.

  29. Kirrick says:

I don’t know whether there is any other link/email to give feedback. 3 things that would help me as a trader with this new platform:

    1. OCO (One cancels other) type of order, where I can just set my SL and Target and forget
    2. For automation please use standard software language (python would be my preference as most open source guys use that) instead of creating proprietory language which makes the learning curve more steeper.
    3. Ability to place/mark order directly on the chart and also mark SL and Target orders (This is little wishful thinking), but this would help people who are predominately visual in nature

    Cheers

  30. Dharmateja says:

    Dear Zerodha,

A platform with international standards similar to available in US and Europe as per the press note. we would like to know details of our new plotform is similar to which international plotform?

  31. RainMaker says:

Why work on a new trading platform ? When there already exist many tried and tested platform. Take for example MT4.
Why not impress upon NSE/SEBI to allow traders to use them. In the age of Jet travels traders are forced to move in bullock carts.

  32. Sridhar says:

Thanks Nitin & team for working on the new trading platform. Zerodha rocks !!!
