Introducing Health on Plants

September 16, 2024

We’re pleased to announce our investment in Health on Plants, a company dedicated to producing high-quality plant-based foods. Founded in 2020 by Sweta Khandelwal and Vijay Pandey, Health on Plants began as a solution to the founders’ own dietary needs as vegan endurance athletes. While competing in ultrarunning events across the world, Sweta and Vijay struggled to find nutritious recovery foods suited to an Indian palate. This personal challenge led them to start Health on Plants.

Since then, the company has gained popularity in the market for its flagship tofu, as well as a wider range of nutritious, plant-based, clean-label offerings. What particularly impressed us was their commitment to quality and sustainability. They focus on sourcing the best ingredients and ensure that no harmful preservatives or chemicals are used in the manufacturing process.

They operate a zero-chemical factory, embracing a circular economy approach by repurposing all byproducts as cattle feed and returning clean water to the fields. This focus on sustainable practices aligns with their mission to provide healthy, all-natural food options.

At Rainmatter, we’re excited to be part of their journey as they pursue a vision of a healthier, more sustainable future.

Here’s a note from Vijay Pandey, the co-founder of the company.

Health on Plants

Health on Plants was born out of a personal quest. As vegan endurance athletes, we struggled
to find recovery foods that were both nutritious and satisfying. Protein powders didn’t keep
us full for long, and the tofu available in the market was rubbery and unappetizing. With our
deep understanding of sports nutrition, we decided to create our product—something
from scratch that would not only optimally fuel our bodies but also taste amazing. It took us a
year to scale it to an industrial level, and it’s been an exciting journey ever since.

Innovative processing and product development

Our manufacturing facility seamlessly blends advanced technology with a personal touch,
ensuring each product is crafted with precision. Over the years, we’ve refined and developed
proprietary processes that enhance the nutritional value of our products while preserving their
natural flavors and textures. These methods are uniquely ours, shaped through ongoing
improvement.

Our product range meets a wide variety of dietary needs and culinary preferences. Whether
it’s firm or extra-firm tofu for grilling and stir-frying or silken tofu for creamy desserts and
dips, we have something for everyone. We also offer tofu infused with aromatic herbs and
spices to elevate everyday meals with bold, exciting flavors.

Sustainability and promoting a circular economy

Sustainability is at the heart of Health on Plants. Our facility is powered by energy sources
like wood pellets made from sawdust that leave no ash. After production, we return clean
water back to the fields. Even the byproduct of tofu-making, known as okara, which still
contains 15% protein, is repurposed as cattle feed, and distributed to local farmers, creating a
truly circular economy and generating rural employment in the village where we operate. We
also prioritize biodegradable and recyclable materials to minimize waste.

Traceability and Transparency

We operate a zero-chemical factory. We provide clear, honest information about the
ingredients, and nutritional values of all our products, allowing customers to make informed
choices. We are proud to be 100% all-natural. No preservatives, no emulsifiers—nothing but
pure, wholesome goodness in our products. This commitment builds trust and confidence in
our brand.

Building a healthy and vibrant community

We stay connected with our customers through social media, where we share recipes,
nutrition tips, and stories from our farming partners. Many endurance athletes, especially
long-distance runners and triathletes, trust our products for their training and recovery, and
we’re proud to be a part of their health journey.

We also take part in local events, spreading awareness about the benefits of plant-based
eating and sustainable farming. Through these efforts, we help build a community that values
both health and environmental sustainability.

Building trust at the source

We collaborate closely with a network of soybean growers, providing them with year-round
contracts to secure the highest quality crops. By offering competitive prices and long-term
agreements, we ensure mutual benefit and sustainability. Each year, we conduct independent
third-party testing on our products for over 240 parameters, including chemicals, fertilizers,
aflatoxins, and heavy metals, to guarantee exceptional quality. This thorough process
supports sustainable agriculture while upholding our strict standards.

Looking ahead

As Health on Plants continues to grow organically, our commitment to innovation,
sustainability, and community remains unwavering. We are excited to introduce new
products and collaborate with like-minded partners to make nutritious, sustainable plant-based
foods accessible to everyone. Join us on this journey.
