{"id":419483,"date":"2025-07-04T13:45:24","date_gmt":"2025-07-04T08:15:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/zerodha.com\/z-connect\/?p=419483"},"modified":"2025-07-04T17:12:26","modified_gmt":"2025-07-04T11:42:26","slug":"1-year-of-markets-by-zerodha","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/zerodha.com\/z-connect\/featured\/1-year-of-markets-by-zerodha","title":{"rendered":"1 year of Markets by Zerodha"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One year ago, we launched a new YouTube channel called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@marketsbyzerodha\">Markets by Zerodha<\/a> (We know, a highly imaginative name).<\/p>\n<p>The first show we started on the channel was called The Daily Brief, a daily podcast where we simplified what we considered the 2-3 most interesting stories in finance, business, and the wider economy. We felt that there was no good daily finance show in India that spoke to its audience as adults\u2014something we could watch and read ourselves, without feeling patronised.<\/p>\n<p>That podcast kept morphing\u2014it became a YouTube show, a daily newsletter, an unending source of Twitter threads, and more. Fast forward one year, and The Daily Brief is one of India&#8217;s most popular finance publications in practically every format we\u2019ve tried. On a given day, more than 20,000-30,000 people watch our videos. Almost as many listen to our podcast. Another 15,000-20,000 people <a href=\"https:\/\/thedailybrief.zerodha.com\/\">read our newsletter<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe width=\"100%\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/OmS_itH-93s\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve never pushed these on anyone. We\u2019ve never tried to \u201cdrive engagement\u201d, or to implement some gauche, soulless \u201ccorporate content strategy.\u201d We were just trying to learn about the world and have fun doing it. Everything else was organic; people seem to like how excited we get about the banal details of business and finance, and end up sharing what we do with their friends.<\/p>\n<p>We never really had an \u2018end goal\u2019 with this, and we still don\u2019t. None of us are from \u201cthe media\u201d; none of us have a professional sense of how to grab eyeballs (and besides, even if we did, we wouldn\u2019t know what to do with them). We\u2019re all clueless geeks that are learning on the job.<\/p>\n<p>And that means this is an evolving property\u2014as we get better at this, the show changes its character. In just the last few months, we&#8217;ve become ambitious in the topics we tackle, from India&#8217;s waste crisis to how Indian ports work. We\u2019ll probably get more ambitious as we go. We aren\u2019t sure what we\u2019ll be six months down the line\u2014but we\u2019ll make sure that we&#8217;re having fun and are learning cool new things we otherwise wouldn&#8217;t have come across. We promise that we\u2019ll be honest with you\u2014we\u2019ll only talk about things that blow our minds. If you\u2019re anything like us, they\u2019ll probably tickle your fancy too.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, we\u2019ll keep experimenting with new shows and newsletters. Only recently, we <a href=\"https:\/\/thechatterbyzerodha.substack.com\/\">tried out The Chatter<\/a>, where we handpick the most interesting, insightful comments that company managements make in their earnings calls and elsewhere. This isn\u2019t masala, headline-grabbing stuff; these are quiet, hidden gems that put you in the shoes of a company and tell you something about how it sees its competition, sector, and the broader economy. It\u2019s meant for insight, not entertainment\u2014and that shows in the people who follow us. From senior investment analysts, to fund managers, to brokers, to budding finance enthusiasts, Chatter is mandatory reading.<\/p>\n<p>Another rather popular newsletter we\u2019ve put out is the \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/aftermarketreport.substack.com\/\">Aftermarket Report<\/a>.\u2019 We send this out after the markets close every day, and it summarises the day\u2019s key market events, along with several useful data points.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a lot more that we\u2019re cooking up. We just started \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/whatthehellishappening.substack.com\/\">What the hell is happening!?<\/a>\u201d\u2014where we curate articles, videos, podcasts, and research papers that help us understand this weird, confusing moment in time, where the entire world is moving too fast to keep up. We\u2019re also restarting some old favourites. We\u2019re bringing back \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/thedailybrief.zerodha.com\/s\/who-said-what\">Who Said What?<\/a>\u201d, where we run through some of the more interesting statements that important people make, and \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/thedailybrief.zerodha.com\/s\/beyond-the-charts\">Beyond the Charts<\/a>,\u201d where we mine through charts and graphs for insights about the world.<\/p>\n<p>All of this is done by just eight people or so\u2014we have a small team of researchers and writers that dive into a new obsession every day, and a production team that pulls through daily all-nighters to bring everything to you.<\/p>\n<p>This isn\u2019t nearly all we\u2019ll do. We\u2019re just getting started, and we have big ambitions. We hope that, someday, the Markets YouTube channels and newsletters become the go-to destinations for people to understand what&#8217;s happening in the markets, finance, and the broader economy.<\/p>\n<p>But more importantly, we hope we can bring at least some more people to see how interesting markets really are. There\u2019s a fascinating, overwhelming, beautiful, chaotic dance around us.
