The PoA format is set by SEBI. We just use the template. It is a little broad, yes, but that is because there are a host of services that brokers have offered in the past that it needed to cover for. The broad wording is a legacy issue. As for a broker acting beyond the PoA, or even within the confines of the PoA but without knowledge of the customer and to the detriment of the customer, you can register a complaint on SEBI SCORES. Also, we will soon start offering you the ability to revoke your PoA online and use the CDSL TPIN to authorise debit of shares for online selling, etc.,. Explained here.
